Clowning Around
What’s old is new again! We’re seeing this everywhere these days: from returning fashion trends to numerous old TV show remakes. It’s beginning to all seem like déjà vu. This is not to say that it’s a bad thing though. The city of Santa Monica might be amongst those thinking they’ve gone back in time when they see Cirque du Soleil tents rising in their area. Back in the 1980’s, when this rather untraditional Quebec based circus group was still struggling, the Santa Monica Pier did them a solid. By offering the group a second run at the pier, they kept the troupe afloat making it possible for them gain the notoriety and fan base that would eventually lead to worldwide success. As a thank you of sorts, Cirque du Soleil returned to the Santa Monica Pier on October 16th with their Kooza show as part of the Pier’s 100th birthday celebration. The Kooza show not only returns the group to its old stomping grounds, but the show itself is very much a throw back to the days when they were still trying to get off the ground. Pun intended.
The Kooza show will focus a lot more on traditional acrobats and clowns than their more recent shows have. And not the creepy, weird clowns that we usually see at their shows; these ones are actually funny making this a definite must for families. Even with this lighter tone, the show still packs all the amazing wonders of traditional Cirque performances. Kooza is only running through November 29th so make sure to get your tickets NOW!
