The British are coming! The British are coming! But we need not fear (although many older Beverly Hills residents are) because they’re bringing us a wonderful present- The Soho House. FINALLY, after years of issues, Soho House was awarded approval to build a West Hollywood outpost of their hotel/private club. According to their website, “In 2010, Soho House will open in West Hollywood at 9200 Sunset Boulevard- a penthouse offering 360 degree views over LA and the Hollywood Hills. With over 10,000 sq ft of in and outdoor space- members will have areas to eat, meet, drink and relax.” There are currently 6 Soho House locations in New York and London and 2010 will see the addition of this one in West Hollywood along with house openings in Berlin, Miami and Chicago. The Soho House caters to an eclectic group of wealthy people- think more artists and entrepreneurs than celebrities and businessmen. In fact, they prefer guests not wear suits or ties at the NYC location. Right now this private club is very well know in certain circles, but not universally. Sadly, this will quickly change once the West Hollywood location opens. Membership is limited and selective (you must have other members recommend you). Hopefully Hollywood plays by the rules and this doesn’t turn into another hangout totally overrun with just celebrities.
